All about Vestibular Group Fit

Vestibular Group Fit is the only exercise program designed specifically for people with Vestibular Disorders. But wait, before you close this tab because you might not want to work out, give me a chance to explain!

If you are a person who is dizzy, working out might feel like a goal you may never reach. I can think of countless patients I have helped through Vestibular Rehabilitation Therapy who had a first-day goal of being able to go on a long walk, jog, or go to a workout class again. I get this request so frequently, and it is most often followed up with “but, I know that may be too far of a reach.” My thought is that there is never too far of a reach – and exercising again is never a goal that’s ‘too high.’

Exercise Should Always be a Priority

Whether you are starting by walking 2 minutes per day or trying to return to running 5k’s, we are here to help you meet those goals! Vestibular Group Fit is an exercise program designed for you to strengthen and move in a safe environment. Exercising should be a priority if you have a vestibular disorder because it will strengthen your vestibular system, improve your balance, and prevent future attacks. Exercise is a priority for people with vestibular disorders. I wish we had a magic pill to get rid of dizziness, but since that is not an option, a holistic program addressing your symptoms and triggers is the best we can do. Exercise should be a part of everyone’s program since stimulating and strengthening your vestibular system will prevent attacks and improve your current symptoms.

Classes from the Comfort of Your Own Home

When you feel dizzy, the last thing you want to do is leave the house. Because of this barrier, getting to the gym or workout class, or even on a walk, can feel impossible. Working out virtually is here to change that. We have been doing a lot more in the last 2 years than ever before, so why not workouts, too?

There are so many benefits to working out from home:

  • You can work out any time of the day that works for you.
  • You are in an environment you feel safe, so no worrying about looking silly!
  • You can pause and take a break at any time.
  • It doesn’t require a gym membership or any equipment.

These benefits, and more, are reason enough to join Vestibular Group Fit, let alone that all the exercises are entirely made for you!

Workouts 6 Days per Week

All exercise is beneficial, but regular exercise is the most beneficial way to exercise. We should be consistent about exercise for the maximum benefits, and although that’s sometimes difficult, Vestibular Group Fit makes it more accessible.

  • 3 live workouts per week
  • 3 on-your-own workouts per week, programmed monthly

Log onto the Facebook group any time of the day, and there is an available workout! If there wasn’t a live workout that day, you can repeat a workout from a previous month or complete an on-your-own workout. The opportunity for six workouts a week, which last 30-45 minutes, is ideal for strengthening your mind, body, spirit, and vestibular system. Always check the Group or The Vault for our regularly scheduled classes!

Balance Challenges

Living with a vestibular dysfunction can make balance incredibly difficult. Many people feel like they’re walking on a cloud, unable to maintain their balance, or feel like they’re ‘walking like a drunk.’  Practicing your static and dynamic balance daily improves your ability to balance in all situations you are placed in. Balance challenges start on the first of the month and come with an accountability tracker!

The Support Group

I truly believe that it takes a village. It doesn’t matter what ‘it’ is, IT takes a village. This means you need support, we all do! That’s why there is a support group aspect here. Because you are taking a group class from home, you don’t get the in-person group fitness experience, however, the Facebook Support Group is here to change that! This is a group to raise questions, comments, and concerns as well as share wins you’ve had this week or something that’s been going on with you. The Group is all about support, kindness, and being helpful to one another. There is so much confusion when it comes to vestibular dysfunction, and knowing that you’re in a place where you’ll get the right care, education, and support is comforting.

Premium Content

Vestibular Group Fit has expanded from offering just workout classes. Although the workouts are what this group is based upon, it’s not all that we can provide you. Premium Content is dropped in the group every three weeks and is based on the questions you have for me. We discuss anything you may have questions about:

  • Fatigue & eye strain
  • Visual vertigo
  • Vestibular strengthening exercises
  • Navigating social situations with a Vestibular Disorder
  • And more!

We are Committed to Helping You Move Again!

At The Vertigo Doctor and Oak Physical Therapy & Wellness, we are committed to helping you decrease your dizziness and improve your function. The function is our number one priority.

      1. Hi there,

That’s a shame, as I can’t afford the premium at the moment, but I would be keen for a basic option (I would be happy just to get access to 2 or 3 workouts per week, for example). I hope this might be something you consider offering in the future. Thanks and best wishes.

  1. I was diagnosed with Vestibular neuritis over 5 years ago. I’ve done a lot of VRT. I still have lingering symptoms including vision issues and detached feeling. Do you offer anything beyond the traditional VRT exercises. I’ve done them and was faithful to them. I’ve also done VRT with “goggles” that had training exercises. Just don’t want to waste my time if this is what I’ve already doen

Hi! This is definitely to VRT. I have sent an email to you, but thought I would reply here as well so that others with the same question could find the answer as well.

This is not Vestibular Rehab, it is a movement-based program designed to help you strengthen and heal your vestibular system. There are educational modules every other week, monthly balance challenges (and surprise challenges), ways to strengthen your vestibular system during workouts and on your own, and more! Again, it’s not VRT, but it does help decrease dizziness and vestibular attacks for many current members.

  2. Hello Madison. I just saw you on FB with Adriane from Yoga for Migraine. Thank you for sharing your knowledge….very interesting. Last month I completed Beyond Migraine with Adriane and the results have been remarkable. I’ve gone from chronic migraine attacks (15-17 per month) for the past 2 years (though I’ve experienced migraines for 30+) to 4-5 per month for the past 3 months. I’m interested in learning more about your classes. What time are your live classes each week? Thanks! Carolyn

Hello, Carolyn! Congrats on all of your progress, that’s fantastic! Each week live classes are help at 9:00am EST. However, each one is recorded and can be viewed at your leisure. They’re stored on both Facebook & the members only vault until the end of the month, and then remain on the Members Only Vault for eternity! Let me know if you have any other questions 🙂

  3. What time do the live group fit sessions take place? I’m in the UK and a few hours ahead of the US time zones. Do participants need to buy equipment such as weights? Thanks

Hello! The lives are MWF at 9:00am Eastern Standard time (NYC time). However, you do not need to be there live because all classes are recorded to do at your leisure. And no, you do not need to purchase anything. All workouts can be done with body weight or household items (I myself often use a can of beans).

  4. Hi!
I exercise pretty frequently and am in VRT, but I feel like I need an extra push. I’ve been curious about your vestibular fit program and would like to give it a try. Can I cancel at any time?

Hi Jessica! this Group would be perfect for you as it is cancel anytime, and it’s the support for movement that all vestibular warriors need! Let me know if you have other questions, I look forward to seeing you in the group!
