#110 Pilates as Exercise for Vestibular Migraine w/ Candy Price

0:00

Feeling safe in movements and exercises (like pilates or yoga) can seem like a tall order when you have vestibular migraine or dizziness. But it’s not hopeless!

Many people think that group is just about strength training or doing super intense workouts that they could “never do,” but that’s not the case. Inside Vestibular Group Fit, we offer lots of different classes! Pilates and yoga are two of them.

In this episode, Dr. Madison interviews VGFit’s in-house yoga and pilates instructor, Candy Price.

In Candy’s previous episode on the podcast, the conversation was focused on yoga (definitely go listen to that one!). This time around, the conversation explored all things pilates and dizziness disorders.

In this episode, we’ll dig into:

  • The difference between reformer and mat pilates
  • The biggest benefit of moving the solar plexus
  • The best movement for dizziness and vestibular disorders
  • The importance of postural alignment with vestibular disorders
  • How Candy cues during classes to help you scale the exercise
  • How to navigate the fear of working out and moving your body again
  • What to do if you “can’t” do spinal flexion
  • A major reframe for when you’re feeling anxious
  • How frequently you need to do pilates for it to be effective
  • Why you should never skip the cool down

Confidence and trust in your body is something that people with dizziness disorders feel like they lose or have a hard time building back up. Exercising in a way that you enjoy is the #1 way that you can do that.

If you’re struggling with your vestibular disorder—whether it’s a newer diagnosis or you’ve been looking for solutions for years—VGFit is here for you. We’ve curated the best instructors, class styles, and so much more to get back to feeling good and secure in your body.
